Okinawa, again. Weft ikat on Basho Fu. Part 1

March 8, 2011

The theme for this time workshop was learning kasuri- kukuri(tie kasuri skein) for weft ikat and weave different patterns.

This time Taeko joined the session. She is a Yaeyama Jofu weaver. She called me “rain woman”, because every time I come to Okinawa, it rains.

So, in heavy rain morning, I picked up Taeko in Naha area check it out. We drove up to Ogimi village where Yumiko’s studio is. It took us about two hours to get there.

Right after lunch we started preparing weft thread.
