My small workshops of kudzu thread/cloth making started last May.
I met many new people through the workshops during the summer.
There were also several friends visited me and they had a sort of retreat with plant material on my property.
For people who missed the kudzu class last time, I will plan another occasion some time in the future.
Now, I am scheduling upcoming classes of hemp thread making.
We cannot process fresh hemp stems here, so we will start dealing with cleaned hemp fiber.
I am not focusing “how to” make this and that. I would like my classes more educational.
In another word, this is a “finger-gym” class. The class is for building your finger muscles and improving the flexibility of your finger movement.
As well as other plant fiber, Hemp can look and feel very differently, depending on the fiber processing method.
If you have already an fixed idea for “hemp cloth”, this workshop would make you discover a new aspect of it.
So, let’s take a closer look at hemp fiber.
We will practice a couple of splicing techniques, then, of course, weaving a sampler with your own thread.
I made four steps for the entire program.
Step 1: familiarizing hemp fiber which is irritatingly sticky(?), learning the first splicing technique.
Step 2: Learning other variations of splicing technique.
Step 3: Starching the thread.
Step 4: Weaving your sampler.
