Two events on plants fiber textiles – 1

August 13, 2012

I am convinced once again the richness of Japan’s plants fiber textiles culture.

The first event took place in Tokyo. http://silklab.com/

This building is a sort of event hall belonging to Yamada-ya, a kimono dealer.

The event lasted for about a week.  The experts who are in front, each of them presenting one specific plant fiber fabric;  Basho, kudzu,  hemp, ramie linden wood and Japanese cotton.

Some of the plant fiber lovers put their hands on some materials and tried making thread with experienced weavers guidance.

Others who are kimono lovers went to upper level of the building and checked precious kimonos and obis out.
